DPS Monthly & Annual Competition

Note: as of June 2008, the club has voted to eliminate slide competition - all projected images
must be in a digital format.

Members may enter photographic prints or digital files. The images in all categories are
presented for voting by members and critiquing by our guest judge. Subject matter may be open or
assigned (see calendar below).

Competition meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month. (In November and December,
meeting is 2nd Wednesday. The December meeting is the Annual Banquet and Awards Presentation.)

The monthly competition include the following categories:
projected digital files and prints, B&W/monochromatic and/or color (from film or digital).
Awards are given based on popular vote and judge selection.

Points earned each month accumulate toward annual awards. Monthly entries are eligible
for the year-end competition.

Please check competition rules before preparing your entries.

NATURE definition: A Nature Photograph is a print or slide (from a single negative, slide, digital capture,
electronic transfer, etc.) taken at a single moment in time, that accurately depicts one or more natural subjects
(including animals, fish, geological formations, insects, plants, etc) as they appeared at that moment in time
with sufficient detail that the identity of the subject(s) can be readily determined. If a man-made object is in
the photograph, it must be incidental to or contribute to the nature story without drawing attention away
from the subject of the photograph. Photographs of constrained animals (such as those found
at game farms, animal rehabilitation centers & zoos), feral domesticated animals and cultivated flowers are permitted as subjects. Scenics or landscapes where the type of plants or rock formations
are NOT easily determined (such as silhouettes and layered ranges of mountains, hills, or trees), images where heavy filtration (other than polarizing or enhancing) is used to the extent that the accurate rendition
of the original subject is lost, or where long exposures alter the perceived scene (such as:
cotton candy water), are more properly pictorial subjects than nature subjects."
